Recreational Soccer Program

The game is the best teacher: Gunston Soccer is dedicated to playing small-sided soccer through the majority of its age divisions. Starting at age 5, on a small field (20 yards by 30 yards) with just 3 players on a team on the field, the children’s only objective is to kick the ball and have fun. The games consist of 4 quarters of 4 or 5 minutes each quarter. Since there are a smaller number of players on the field, each child has more time (or touches) with the ball. Teams at this age are limited to 6 or 7 players. As they get older, the field gradually grows in size as more players and positions are added. In this progressive curriculum, children first enjoy the game, all the while learning the basic concepts of kicking, dribbling, and using their feet to control the ball. At the U14 division the players have finally progressed to a full size field (110 by 60 yard) field with 11 players on a team with a roster of 17 players.

Gunston Recreational Micro-Soccer League offers children, ages 5-19, an opportunity to play soccer in a Co-ed environment that fosters teamwork and having fun. All league games are played at Grist Mill Park, Mt Vernon VA. Practices start approximately 2 weeks before the beginning of the season. Coaches contact players once teams are assembled and will determine the frequency of practices and the location.

The league attempts to honor special placement requests, however, final placement is at League discretion. Gunston Recreational/Micro-Soccer is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers, from the commissioners and coaches to the folks who set up the fields.

To secure placement on a team, all registrations and payments must be received no later than August 22, 2009.

Regular Registration: July 1 through August 21, 2009 **
U5-U9 - $66.00

Late Registration: August 22 through September 6, 2009 (No guarantee to be placed on a team)
U5-U9 - $96.00
U10-U19 - $106.00

** Regular Registration for players registering for a SFL team is July 31, 2009.  The SFL is for players U12 and older.
